This bread is pan-fried then baked, resulting in a golden crust with a fluffy interior, perfect for holding juicy, braised meat fillings. It's simple, satisfying, and incredibly versatile.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • For the Filling:
  • 1 pound pork belly (or beef shank)
  • 2 cups water or broth
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon ginger (grated)
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 2 green onions (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
